Tidio Review: Is It Worth It for a Solo Business in 2026?

The short version: Tidio’s live chat is genuinely easy to set up, and the free plan is a real way to test it. But its AI chatbot, Lyro, is billed as a completely separate add-on with its own usage limits — and once you actually need ongoing AI conversations, a “$29/month” plan commonly turns into $100-150+/month. If AI support is the whole reason you’re considering Tidio, budget for the real number, not the one on the pricing page.

Note: an earlier post on this site recommended Tidio as a fast, simple starting point for AI support. That framing undersold the real cost — this review corrects it.

What Tidio Actually Does

Tidio combines live chat, a shared inbox, and multichannel messaging (website, email, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp) with Lyro, an AI chatbot that answers routine questions using your own content, and Flows, a drag-and-drop automation builder for chat sequences.

The core plans don’t charge per agent — up to 10 seats are included even on lower tiers — which is a genuine advantage over per-seat competitors, as long as you stay under that seat cap.

Real Pricing in 2026 (Three Separate Meters)

This is where Tidio gets confusing, and where most comparison lists stop short. There are three independently billed things: the base Customer Service plan, the Lyro AI add-on, and Flows automation.

PlanPrice (annual billing)Billable conversationsLyro AI included
Free$050/month50 total, one-time — not renewing
Starter~$24/month100/month50 total, one-time — not renewing
Growth~$49/month250–2,000/monthNot included — add-on required
Plus$749/monthCustomBundled, higher volume
PremiumFrom $2,999/monthCustom3,000+ conversations, resolution guarantee

On top of any plan, Lyro AI starts around $32-39/month for roughly 50-100 AI conversations, and cost climbs quickly from there — 500-1,000 AI conversations a month commonly runs $79-150/month on the add-on alone. Add Flows automation at roughly $24-29/month, and a realistic total for an active small business — Growth plan plus Lyro plus Flows — lands around $105-150+/month, not the $29-59 headline figures.

The part that catches people off guard: on Free and Starter, the 50 included Lyro conversations are a one-time allowance, not a monthly one. Once they’re gone, the AI chatbot simply stops responding until you add the paid Lyro tier.

Where Tidio Genuinely Delivers

  • Fast to set up: the live chat widget and basic automation are genuinely quick to get running, with minimal technical setup
  • No per-seat fees up to 10 agents: a real advantage if you have even a couple of people helping with support, unlike platforms that charge per agent from the first seat
  • Public, honest pricing page: unlike some competitors that hide pricing behind a sales call, Tidio’s tiers are published — the complexity is in how many separate meters there are, not in hidden numbers

Where Tidio Falls Short

  • AI isn’t really included — it’s a separate product. Marketing that leads with “$29/month” is technically true for live chat alone; ongoing AI conversations are a different line item entirely.
  • Free and Starter’s Lyro allowance is one-time, not monthly. This is easy to miss when comparing plans and directly affects whether “free” is actually usable for real AI support.
  • The Plus tier is a steep jump. Going from Growth (~$49/month) to Plus ($749/month) is a roughly 12x leap with nothing in between — a business that outgrows Growth’s conversation cap has no gentle next step.
  • Resolution rate claims deserve skepticism. Lyro is marketed around a 67% resolution rate; real-world reports from users more commonly land in the 40-60% range — treat the higher number as a best-case, not an expectation.

Who Should Actually Use Tidio

Tidio is a reasonable choice if you mainly want live chat with occasional automation and don’t expect heavy AI conversation volume — the Free or Starter plan can genuinely cover that without ever touching the Lyro add-on.

It’s a weaker fit if AI-handled support is the actual point for you. In that case, a flat-priced tool is easier to budget for: Freshdesk’s Copilot is a separate cost too but at least a fixed one, and alfred_ (for inbox-side support) has no add-on structure at all — one price, everything included.

FAQ

Is Tidio actually free for small businesses? The free plan is real and usable for basic live chat, but the AI chatbot (Lyro) only comes with 50 one-time conversations — not a monthly renewing amount — so “free AI support” doesn’t hold up beyond initial testing.

Why does Tidio cost more than the advertised price? Because Lyro AI and Flows automation are billed as separate add-ons on top of the base Customer Service plan. A business using all three commonly pays $105-150+/month even though the base plan alone starts at $29-59.

Is Tidio good for a one-person business? For live chat alone, yes — it’s fast to set up and doesn’t charge per seat. For AI-driven support specifically, the layered pricing makes it harder to budget for than flat-priced alternatives.

How does Tidio compare to Freshdesk for AI support? Both separate AI pricing from the base plan, but Freshdesk’s AI add-on pricing is more predictable per agent, while Tidio’s scales with conversation volume across three different meters — worth modeling your actual expected volume against both before choosing.
